A Strange Summer

On our blog we often post pictures showing the sunshine, today the rain has come but being stuck inside has given me the motivation to update the blog. We have been back in Cascais for nearly three months now. The summer has not been the one we planned but we have been out exploring the local area. Places are very quiet, we visited the Castelo de S. Jorge Lisbon, speaking to one of the guides they typically have 20,000 visitors a day in August, this year the numbers are around 2,000. Returning to Portugal

Finally we have returned from our “short” trip to the UK. Two and a half weeks became six weeks and then four and a half months later, we were on our way back to Portugal.  It was a surreal experience travelling back, very few people are travelling and Stansted airport only had 7 passenger flights leaving that day. As you might expect the airport was very quiet so no queues.  The catering and shops were all closed with the exception of Boots where you could buy a sandwich, you had to queue to get into the shop. Still in England

What a strange month this has been, our two and a half week trip to the UK has become two and a half month trip. When we left Portugal coronavirus was predominately still a Chinese problem and we did not imagine how both family events and world events would develop over such a short time scale.
